Our School

Introduction

The River Learning Trust (formerly called The Cherwell School Academy Trust) is planning to open a new community 11-18 comprehensive school, The Swan School, in September 2019 offering 120 places per year. From 2021 we aim to offer 180 places per year

We were delighted that our application to open a new Free School in Oxford, The Swan School, was approved in September 2015 and we are now in the ‘pre-opening’ phase.

We will shortly publish more information and we are grateful for all of the support we have received so far and will continue to work closely with the community of Oxford as our new school becomes a reality.

Background

The new school will be opened under the Government’s programme for Free Schools and will work in close partnership with The Cherwell School (rated by Ofsted an Outstanding School and a National Teaching School) and will also have strong links to other schools across the city enabling the new school to draw on combined strengths and experience. The new school will offer the opportunity for children to access excellent education as places in Oxford’s secondary schools come under increasing demand.

Our proposal is the only one that has the backing of all local city secondary schools. We also have the support of a number of local councillors. We aim to meet the needs of the city in a sustainable way in the years ahead. We have a proven track-record at The Cherwell School and we believe we can expand our excellent provision in a new school as part of its Multi-Academy Trust. This is the only proposal for a new school in Oxford that has the support of experienced and strong local schools.
